Preparing Your Heart: A Guide to Holy Confession

"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me."

— Psalm 51:10

Preparation Steps

Step Out of the Noise

Confession isn't a performance or an interrogation—it’s a safe, healing space to lay down what you were never meant to carry alone.

1. Set Aside Quiet Time

Find 15–20 minutes without distractions to quietly reflect before coming to church.

2. Bring a Written List

Write down what comes to mind. Bringing notes into Confession keeps your mind clear, helps identify underlying patterns, and removes the stress of trying to remember everything in the moment.

"In the strictest sense, most of us don’t break the Ten Commandments daily—so it’s easy to feel like we live mostly sin-free. But true spiritual self-examination looks past outer behavior into our thoughts, words, and quiet motivations. While we might keep the letter of the law, we often miss the spirit of it."
